I’m Safiya Cherfi, an editor based in Scotland where I live with my husband, son, and two cats. Summed up most succinctly as a lifelong lover of literature.
I’m a certified editor and proofreader, having achieved a Level 4 Diploma in editing and proofreading with distinction from the College of Media and Publishing.
I’m also a writer and have had short stories published in a range of literary magazines, such as Gutter Magazine, Inner Worlds, Luna Station Quarterly, The Selkie, and more. I have also worked on various full-length manuscripts over the years, and in 2021, my YA dystopian manuscript was longlisted for the Laxfield Literary Launch Prize.
In 2021, I co-founded an online literary magazine, Overtly Lit, for which I was one of the chief-editors. I loved the process of working with authors on their short stories and pieces of creative non-fiction, going through the stages of editing with them that involved line editing and proofreading. Now, I turn my passion and skills to editing books.
As a writer myself, I know the blood, sweat and tears that an author pours into their manuscripts. I edit with an encouraging and honest eye, always with the aim to help the author get the best out of their story.

As a reader I enjoy a wide range of genres; literary fiction, historical, fantasy, women’s fiction, as well as non-fiction. I also read and write for adults as well as young adults, so I am keen to work with authors on books in any of these genres.
