What is developmental editing?
This form of editing examines the overall workings of your manuscript – the building blocks of the story. It reviews aspects such as:
- Key plot points
- Story structure
- Voice
- Character development
What is the process?
- You send me your full manuscript
- I leave in-line comments where appropriate to highlight any of the developmental aspects mentioned above
- I will also note what I feel works well to help you identify the strengths in your story
- The comments will include suggestions for improvement where possible
- After finishing the manuscript, I will write a detailed report that covers all the developmental elements. This will identify what works well in the manuscript and what could be improved
- The report will also include a chapter breakdown, character list and basic style guide to help you in later stages of editing your manuscript
How much does it cost?
Developmental editing costs £15 per 1,000 words. To book your slot, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required.
